Crazy Week

Sorry I have not posted to my blog in a couple of days but this week has been really crazy for me. I have had like three job interviews this week and on top of that, my 4 year old son has been really under the weather. I have been trying to juggle so many things at one time and still have not accomplished everything that I need to do. Also Monday I start an accounting class that I am so dreading because for some reason accounting is just not my cup of tea. I cant understand that stuff for nothing in the world. So I know this next class is going to be hand full and I hope i don't have to drop it ( for the second time). I just wish that accounting came easy for me but since it don't I know that I have to work extra hard and study even harder in order to pass the class.

Well I guess I did enough complaining for one day!!

Phone Assignment #3

Today I did my phone assignment with Araceli and we decided that I would be the boss and she would be the employee who wanted to get a raise. We discussed the reason why she felt she was entitled to raise. We also came up with a mutual agreement that she deserved a raise because she is the only bilingual person that works for our company and she has been there over 3 years. She felt that she has been a great asset to our company and that it was time she got compensated for her hard work. We also talked about how much her raise would be and we agreed on the amount. I felt that since she had been there for such a long time that it was in by best interest to give her a raise. She made numerous points to why she thought that she deserved a pay raise and I agreed with her.

I enjoyed our assignment and thought that Araceli was a very intelligent woman.

Group presentation

I can honestly say that I enjoy the group I am in. Everyone seems to be very intelligent and on the same page. we were having minor problems in the beginning because we did not know how we were going to present our case. Now that we have figured that out, everything seems to be going smoothly. We have had 2 phone conferences where we have discussed cases and who is going to play the role of who. I was a little nervous at first because I was not for sure who my group members were , but now that i have been able to talk to everyone and see that they are very committed to getting the presentation done, it takes a lot off my shoulders.

Movie Assignment

The movie I chose to watch was A Time to Kill, the film was very interesting and I enjoyed watching it.

1. Identify ALL of the conflicts in the movie. How are they presented and resolved?
The major conflict in the movies was how those White men raped that little black girl and was going to get away with. I tried to put myself in the fathers position and I probably would have did the same thing. The conflicts are presented when the two white men raped the little girl and the father ended up shooting them.

2. Do the conflicts seem realistic? Why?
Yes the conflicts seem realistic because, during that time African Americans were not treated equal so when those type of things happened, they did not suffer consequences like they would now.

3. How might you handle the conflicts differently / better than in the film?
I don't think that killing those men was the brightest move, but you never know what you would do if you were in that same position. I probably would not have shot them but I know I would have tried to the best of my ability to make sure they spent the rest of their lives in jail.

4. Did the characters utilize effective negotiation, communication, listening and problem-solving skills?
Yes they did because the lawyer had to do all of the above to pursue the jury that the father wasn't thinking clearly.

5. Do the conflicts in the film provide any opportunities for alternative dispute resolution? Explain.
I am really not for sure because back in those days there was nothing that you could say to change there opinion about blacks. So no matter what was did the Whites were sticking with the whites and the blacks with the blacks.

Phone Call Assignment

This week we were to do a phone call assignment with someone where we role played. Someone was to be a resource manager and the other person was to be an employee who was having a problem. My phone partner was Matt and we decided on the issue of sexual harassment within a company. I was a woman who was having problems with a fellow worker and went to the resource manager to let him know what had happen. Matt felt that if it was the first time than he would talk to them employee and if it persist than that person would get wrote up.

We also discussed what would happen in different circumstances, For example, if it were not just words but someone got physical or if it were mutual and then the woman decides to say it was sexual harassment. So we discussed many different scenarios and the conclusion we both agreed on was, sexual harassment is a big problem and it needs to be dealt with in accordance to what the allegations are.

Emotional IQ Test

My test proved that I have a lot of work to do within myself order to be a complete person. I think that it takes time for a person to really figure out what they want and expect from life. I am 23 years old and i don't know what tomorrow is going to bring, but what I can say is that I am living my life for my kids TODAY. Life is short and it is not guaranteed that you will go to sleep and and wake up the next day. So I try to live my life according to that. I know my life may not be perfect and for definite it did not turn out the way I planned, but i am OK with the way it did. I'm learning to be happy and content with my life and stop worrying about what in could have been and continue to focus on what it can be.
